Description
Part of a distinguished Norwegian-American family who immigrated to Wisconsin in 1855, Nils Haugen was a devout Lutheran. This database is his autobiography originally published in 1930. It describes his life as a logger, factory hand, teacher, court reporter, and state legislator. It also provides his account of attending the law school at the University of Michigan and his service in the U.S. Congress between 1887 and 1895. With detailed commentary on the political development of Wisconsin, this database can afford an intimate view of the politics of the region before the start of the twentieth century.
