Brief history and commentary on the Norwegian-American community in Wisconsin
Description
Norwegian immigrants comprised a large proportion of foreign settlers in the Midwest throughout the nineteenth century. Originally published in 1915, this database is a cultural and institutional history of the Norwegian-American community in the area. Containing a brief history of important events among Scandinavian immigrants, it also contains eyewitness accounts of tension within American factions of the Lutheran Church. It also provides anecdotes about Knut Hamsun, James G. Blaine, and Bjornstjerne Bjornson. Written by University of Wisconsin professor Rasmus Anderson, this database can be a great aid to those attempting to understand the culture of Norwegian-Americans in the Midwest.
