Description

Serving southwestern Missouri in both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the St. Clair County Democrat and the Appleton City Journal were important sources of news for county residents. This database is a collection of obituaries from both newspapers. Entries from the St. Clair County Democrat span from 1888 to 1928. Entries from the Appleton City Journal span from 1913 to 1916. In addition to providing the decedent's name and date of death, it reveals the person's age or date of birth. As with many rural newspapers, it includes the names of many people who lived in surrounding counties, making this a valuable source of information regarding Missouri residents. Containing the names of over 4500 persons, this can be a useful database for those seeking Missouri ancestors.
