As a record of events, newspapers often contain valuable information regarding local residents. This database contains details from two Kansas newspapers, the Leavenworth Advertiser and McLouth Times.
The collection of names from the Leavenworth Advertiser includes nearly 700 who for a variety of reasons (birth, death, divorce, etc.) found their name in print. Based in Leavenworth, Kansas, this newspaper also included persons from the surrounding area. Covering more than a year at the turn of the century (5 May 1899 - 27 July 1900), a variety of information can be found in this database, including the town of residence for the person and the date their name appears in the newspaper. In some cases the reason their name was printed is also given (birth, death, divorce, etc.).
The McLouth Times was an important newspaper in the Jefferson County area of Kansas in the nineteenth century. The names in this database were taken from a "souvenir" edition of the newspaper printed on 25 November 1898. This booklet contained a history of the people, businesses and churches during the first forty years of the community. The original booklet from which this database was taken is in the possession of the Leavenworth County Historical Society.
